21 'Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.
22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end wil be saved.
23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
24 'A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
25 It is enough for the student ot be like his teacher, and the servant like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household!
26 'So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be make known.
27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.
28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.
30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

예수가 제자들에게 치유의 권능을 주고 하나님의 백성인 이스라엘에게 복음을 전하도록 계속 당부한다. 복음을 전하는 것은 핍박 받는 것을 넘어 가족을 분열 시키고 죽음에 이르게 할 수도 있다. 이토록 예수를 따른 다는 것은 심각한 도전을 동반하는 일이며 끝까지 견디는 믿음으로 구원을 얻으라고 한다.
하나님이 약속하신 구원자가 세상에 왔다. 이 기쁜 소식을 먼저 하나님의 백성인 이스라엘에게 전하라. 내가 복음이 없던 이 어두운 땅에 처음으로 밝게 비추었으니 너희는 그 빛 가운데서 말하라. 산 속에서 조용히 들었던 것을 도시에 가서 집집마다 모두가 들리도록 외쳐라. 그런데 그들은 너희와 너희 가족을 핍박할 것이다. 왜냐하면 나를 부정하고 바알세불이라고 악한 잡신 취급을 하니 너희에게는 오죽 하겠는가? 몸을 죽일 수 있으나 혼까지 죽일 수 없는 그들을 두려워 마라. 혼과 몸을 모두 지옥에 던져 멸망시킬 수 있는 하나님을 두려워하라.
