22 'The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 'No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
25 'Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you wil eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
26 Look at the birds of the aire; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
27 Who of you by worring can add a single hour to his life?
28 'And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

눈이 밝고 좋으면 몸도 밝고 좋다고 한다. 몸안으로 들어오는 음식도 중요하지만 어떤 빛이 눈을 통해 몸을 밝게 하는지도 중요하다. 눈에 비춰지는 좋지 않은 빛이나 어둠이 들어오면 몸도 어두울 것이며 내 안에 있는 빛이 어두우면 그 어두움은 내 몸 전체를 삼킬 어두움처럼 커져갈 것이다.
두 주인을 섬기지 못할 것이라 한다. 결국은 한쪽을 미워하고 다른쪽을 사랑하든지, 한쪽을 귀중히 여기고 다른쪽을 업신여길 것이라고 한다. 여기서 그 두 주인은 하나님과 재물이다. 하나님을 주인으로 섬기면 재물을 미워하게 될까. 재물은 중요하며 미워할 대상이 아니지 않은가. 하나님으로 부터 나온 재물은 어떻게 할 것이며 하나님께 바칠 재물 또한 어떻게 구할 것인가? 그런 의구심과 어려움은 다음 구절에서 좀더 구체화 된다.
하늘에 나는 새는 심지도, 거두지도 창고에 쌓아 두지도 않지만 하나님은 새들을 먹이신다. 우리는 새보다 훨씬 귀하지 않는가. 내일이면 불속에 던져질 들풀도 입히시는데 우리를 더 소중히 입히지 않겠는가. 걱정하지 마라 하나님은 우리에게 이 모든 것이 필요한 줄 아신다. 먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 그러면 이 모든 것들이 우리에게 덤으로 주어질 것이다. 그러므로 내일 일은 내일이 걱정하고, 오늘의 고통은 오늘로 충분하다.
